Project statement
Watching the Sun
This project was the result of a collaborative residency coordinated by Mayes Creative, in association with the Royal Astronomical Society, to coincide with the beginning of the new solar cycle in 2020. The 25 year cycle starts when the sun's magnetic poles switch North to South. Though the cycle, the magnetic forces twist up due to the sun's spin, eventually snapping into a reverse formation. This magnetic activity causes sunspots, solar ejections and prominences; arching loops of plasma like giant firework displays.
